Why use this unit converter?

Unit conversion sounds simple until you actually need to do it. Maybe a recipe gives the ingredients in ounces, a product specification uses inches, or a travel distance is listed in miles instead of kilometers. You can work out each conversion manually, but using a converter is usually quicker and less likely to lead to a wrong number.

This converter keeps the most commonly needed units together, so you can switch between them without opening another tool every time.

  • 10 useful categories. Convert length, weight, temperature, area, volume, speed, time, data, pressure, and energy.
  • Results update as you type. There is no need to press a separate conversion button.
  • Convert in either direction. You can enter a value in either field and switch the units whenever needed.
  • Metric and imperial units. Both measurement systems are available for everyday conversions.
  • Your values stay on your device. The calculations are performed in your browser.
  • Useful without a connection. After the page has loaded, the converter can continue working offline.

How to use the unit converter

  1. Choose the type of measurement you want to convert, such as Length, Weight, or Temperature.
  2. Enter your number in the From field.
  3. Select the unit you are starting with.
  4. Choose the unit you want from the To menu.
  5. The converted value will appear automatically. You can also use the swap button when you want to reverse the conversion.

Area Land, property, flooring 1 acre = 4,046.86 m²
Volume Recipes, liquids, fuel 1 liter = 0.264172 US gallons
Speed Driving, cycling, travel 100 km/h = 62.1371 mph
Time Planning, schedules, work 1 week = 168 hours

An example

Imagine you are following a recipe that asks for 2 US cups of a liquid, but your measuring jug shows milliliters. Select Volume, enter 2, choose Cup (US) as the starting unit, and select Milliliter as the target unit. The converter will show approximately 473.176 ml.

The same process works for the other categories. Choose the measurement type, enter the value, select the two units, and check the result.

Pro tips

  • Use the swap button when needed. If you accidentally choose the units in the wrong order, there is no need to start over.
  • Check US and UK units carefully. Gallons, pints, and fluid ounces can have different values depending on the measurement system.
  • Be careful with digital storage. Storage manufacturers generally use decimal units, while some computer systems display storage using binary-based values. That is why the number shown on a computer may not match the number printed on a drive.
  • Negative temperatures are supported. For example, -40°C and -40°F represent the same temperature.
  • Keep the converter handy. It can save time when you regularly work with recipes, measurements, travel distances, file sizes, or technical specifications.

A note on privacy

The conversion calculations are handled in your browser, so the values you enter do not need to be sent to a server just to calculate the result. This is useful when you are working with measurements that you would rather keep on your own device.

Unit Converter – FAQ

Yes. After the page has loaded, the conversion calculations run directly in your browser. So you can continue using the converter even when you are offline. The values you enter are not sent to a server just to perform the calculation.
The converter uses standard conversion values, so the results are suitable for normal everyday and technical use. More decimal places are kept internally when needed, while very large or very small numbers may be displayed in a shorter format to make the result easier to read.
The converter currently includes 10 categories: length, weight, temperature, area, volume, speed, time, data, pressure, and energy. Common metric and imperial units are included where they are relevant.
Yes. You can enter a value in either field. If you already know the converted value, type it into the second field and the converter will work in the opposite direction. This can also be useful when checking a measurement from another source.
A kilobyte (KB) contains 1,000 bytes, while a kibibyte (KiB) contains 1,024 bytes. The same distinction applies to larger units such as megabytes and mebibytes or gigabytes and gibibytes. Storage companies generally use decimal units when describing drive capacity, while some operating systems use binary-based measurements. This is one reason the capacity shown on your computer may look smaller than the number printed on the storage device.
Temperature conversion is different from units such as length or weight because it uses formulas instead of simply multiplying by a fixed number. The converter applies the appropriate formula for the units you select, including negative temperatures. For example, -40°C is equal to -40°F.
Yes. If the “Copy result” button is available below the conversion, tap it to copy the result. The copied text includes the value and its units, so you can paste it into a message, document, note, or another place.
No installation is required. The converter works directly in your web browser, so there is no separate app, browser extension, or account to set up. Open the page, choose the units, and enter your value.
